Our Visit To The Good Shepherd Home

This week we went to the Good Shepherds Home which is a home for old people. We did this because we wanted to help the community and wish the people there a merry christmas. We all put on a performance and I did my gymnastics routine. After the performance we gave the old people gifts and cards we had made. They were all very friendly to us when we talked to them.

We all had a fantastic time and I think the old are going to have a very happy christmas.

Haiku Poems

Haiku poems are from Japan. A haiku poem has three lines. The first line has to have five syllables, the second has to have seven and the third has five. Haiku poems paint a picture in your mind. I wrote a haiku poem on birds.

Birds
Flying through the air.
Squawking past the setting sun.
I watch them in awe.

Friendship Poem

This week I wrote another free verse poem. It is about friendship as we have been learning what makes a good friend. It is called "You Are". I am going to read it at assembly.

You Are
You are the bright, blue sky.
You are the one which makes me want to fly.
You are the hand patting me on the back.
Sometimes I feel on top of the world
because all the badness is being hurled.
You are the lanten lighting my way
You are the one who brightens my day.
You are my best friend.

My Free Verse Poem

I have been learning to write all types of poetry using different language features. This week I learnt how to write a free verse poem. A free verse poem is a poem which you can include anything you want in it. I wrote a free verse poem on lollies.

LOLLIES

There was once a grumpy, grouchy, gross man called Creepy Cross Colin.
Slurp slurp slurp- he was a terrible eater.
When it was " Sports Day For Old Men"
everybody would say, " Creepy Colin's such a cheater."
When the old man ate, he would get bits of food stuck in his long black beard.
Everyone thought he was weird.
He was as grumpy as an old lion.
One day Colin saw a shop full of lollies,
Normally he would have just snorted, grrrrr and walked past.
But something odd caught his eye...
A small sign that said: FREE LOLLIES
Ahhhhh, Colin gasped, "Mollie"s Lollie shop?"
He said amazed.
Molly was his old best friend that he missed soooo much.
She thought that money was stupid, so she gave away everythig for free.
Colin went into the shop and took thousands of lollies and ate them all!
Then he went to the lady at the front counter
and asked if the shop was owed by Molly.
She said, ''No sir, this shop is owed by Mr. Spok,
and by the way, will now you pay for all those lollies?"
But.. but.. stammered Colin.
"The sign on the door is a trick", she said with a cheeky grin.
Colin was in shock!
"Now how many lollies did you eat?"

Onamatopoia- my poem

Onamatopoeia is a word which makes a sound like crash, bang and woof.
I wrote a poem called Lunchtime with onomatopoia in it. It goes like this:

LUNCHTIME
'' It's lunchtime!" said the teacher.
Everybody stomped the floor.
Then went out of the door.
After eating, the boys were playing handball.
Bounce bounce went the ball on the wall.
Boing! One of the boys hit the ball so hard
It flew through the air and landed on the grass.
After they picked up the ball,
a few girls including me started chasing them.
Thud, thud, thud went our feet.
He he ha ha! we were all laughing and having fun.
Everybody started joining in, in the sun.
Pant pant pant,pant- it was very tiring.
Duff! I didn't see the wiring
I didn't get hurt though
'cause it was very low.
Just then we all heard a loud, piercing whistle, whoooooooooo!!
We all rushed over to the shaded area to leave for swimming, stomp, stomp, thud, thud.
Mmmmmm mmmmmm My friend is humming a great tune.
Lunchtime ended so soon!

Myths and Legends

At school I have been writing my own myth with a partner. It is called 'Why Emus have their Long Necks'. This is some of the story: It's about a gang of robbers who are Koala, Snake, Echidna and the leader is Emu. Kangaroo is a detective.
In the desert there is a drought. Nobody can find food. The gang of robbers are looking and looking for food. Eventually they are lucky enough to find a picnic that has been left and a pond with water in it. They pack up the food and put all the water from the pond into buckets, then run away into the bush with it! The robbers don't know that that is detective Kangaroo's lunch that he was saving for the worst part of the drought which had already begun..
